SS-40576A- Maj D SreeRam Kumar, 90 Med Arty, at present with 39 Assam Rifles, created an effective and vibrant intelligence network and with meticulous planning led his Company in eliminating 12 hardcore terror-ists, apprehending 23 terrorists and recovery
of 12 weapons since deployment of the Battalion in OPERATION HIFAZAT (Manipur).On 23 Oct 2008, at 1730 hours, after obtaining explicit intelligence regarding presence of 10-15 armed terrorists in village Heingang Heibi Makhong, Imphal East District, Maj D SreeRam Kumar laid multiple ambushes on the escape routes of the terrorist. Around 1830 hours, the section under Maj D SreeRam Kumar observed suspicious movement. On being challenged the terrorists opened indiscriminate heavy automatic fire and pinned down the section. The officer engaged the terrorists with accurate
fire and killed two terrorists on the spot. Maj D SreeRam Kumar continued moving towardsthe remaining well entrenched terrorists. Seeing sheer audacity of the valiant officer hissection immediately followed him. On seeing two more terrorists firing from a dugout chan-nel, Maj D SreeRam Kumar directed his buddy to provide covering fire and with utter disre-gard to his own safety dashed down and killed the two terrorists at point blank range. Fordisplaying inspirational leadership, conspicuous gallantry under lethal hostile fire and singlehandedly eliminating four terrorists, SS-40576A Maj D SreeRam Kumar has been awarded ‘ASHOK CHAKRA’. |
