| At 1815 hours on 25t September 2008, Captain R Balakarthik observed a group of terrorist moving in rugged mountainous terrain in GenerIrea LAWANZ. Exploiting the opportunity, he with mere three soldiers rushed towards the terrorists and firefight ensued, in which three terrorists were killed. However, some terrorists using twilight conditions hid behind the boulders. Inspite of being in hostile terrain with sub zero temperature, he located one terrorist and killed him.
Again on 26 September 2008, while approaching towards suspected terrorist location, he and his buddy came under fire from behind a boulder. Unmindful of his personnel safety, he pushed his buddy behind a boulder and rushed towards the terrorist killing him at close range.
